At 6:30 p.m., June 1, 2012, the Opening Ceremony for EPCOT International Street was held at Haihuayuan block, BNUZ.

EPCOT, shorten form of “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, named from Disneyland and meaning for the future world, representing BNUZ students’ expectation and exploration for future world. Thanks to the activity, the street in Haihuayuan block has been decorated into a European-style Street. Moreover, national flags of 17countries fluttered in the sky, making the street lively.

Prof. Zhongkui WU, vice president of BNUZ, Dr. Wei DAI, vice BNUZ party secretary, Prof. Zhiqiang ZHOU, head of Academic Division and other delegates presented in the opening ceremony and planted the “International Friendship Tree” around Lize Lake with overseas faculties and students across 16 countries.

After the opening ceremony, various activities were held, such as English Salon, IELTS Cultural Exchange, Flair Bartending, Skating Performance etc, attracting many students to participate in.

BNUZ plans to build EPCOT International Street as a great stage for cultural exchange and interactive communication between students and overseas friends. In the near future, business shops around International Street will be encouraged to join in the International Business Community. Chinese students who speak English during the whole shopping process would get a discount if they go shopping in shops with the sign of “International Business Community”. Through such kinds of communication, BNUZ hopes to encourage students to use as much English in the daily life.

The opening ceremony receives great attention from BNUZ faculty and students. A lot of Medias also do follow-up reports for it.
