On Aug 27, 2017, Guangdong Provincial and Zhuhai Municipal governments, and BNU signed a tripartite agreement in Guangzhou to build BNUZ into a high-end science and education center integrating education, culture, health and technology, research and innovation with worldwide influence.

With the agreement signed, BNUZ will adopt a co-construction mechanism with Guangdong, Zhuhai, and BNU and will further attract and integrate premium international and domestic educational resources to foster internationalized and innovative talents.

Since BNUZ's establishment in 2002 as the only sister campus of BNU, the Zhuhai campus grew to an international and prestigious university in Guangdong province with over 23,000 undergraduate students. The pact solidifies cooperation between Guangdong and BNU will further strengthen higher education reform and the implementation of innovation-driven development, as noted by Huang Ningsheng, Vice-governor of Guangdong Province at the signing ceremony. The Guangdong Party Committee and government together with Zhuhai Municipal government will fully support the Zhuhai campus.

Based on the development requirements of national strategic plan “One Belt and One Road” andGuangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, it foresees a"Southern Silicon Valley" in educational innovation, which adheres to the educational, economic, and social demands of the country and Guangdong Province, said Dong Qi, President of BNU.

Zhuhai Municipal government will help the campus to develop better and faster, and assist it in becoming a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. Backed by BNU's superiority in education, BNUZ should also see overall improvement, said Yan Wu, Vice Mayor of Zhuhai.

Other attendees at the signing ceremony included Huang Ningsheng (Vice-governor of Guangdong Province), Li Yiwei (Deputy Secretary-General of Guangdong Province), Jing Lihu (Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province),Dongqi (President of BNU), Chen Guangju (Vice President of BNU), Li Xiaobing (Vice Chairperson of the University Council of BNU), Tu Qingyun (President of BNUZ), Yan Wu (Vice Mayor of Zhuhai), Fu Ailan (Vice President of BNUZ) and Dai Wei (Vice President and Vice Chairperson of the University Council of BNUZ).
