On July 6, the Mayor of Halifax met with BNUZ student delegation at the Mayor’s office.

The students were so excited to be met by such a distinguished guest, especially when they held casual talks sitting on the carpet with the gentleman and were treated warmly with coffee and desserts.

Sir Mayor delivered a brief introduction to the students, and then talks continued as a Q&A section. Students conducted a variety of questions like policies on overseas studies, city construction, public transportation, migration, etc., the mayor addressed all concerns in his humorous way. For example, when having been asked what his plan would be after retirement, the mayor said: since I had a Master degree, can I teach at BNUZ then? Everyone laughed and admired his wise answers.

When having been asked what he would normally do during weekends, Mr Mayor said he was always too busy to have weekends, and if time allowed, he would walk to the parks and talk with people there, just to learn how people were doing, or anything that were needed to improved. He also mentioned how enjoyable that could be. Students were all impressed by the optimistic way of work.

In the end, Mr Mayor invited all students to have photos, presented small gifts and gave farewells to the students down at lobby of the town hall. When talking about the experience, students memorized a sentence that had been frequently repeated by Sir Mayor: “Treat people as you would like to be treated”, and posed the big thumbs for this servant of people in Halifax.
