At 7p.m. in May 31st, 2013, the 3rd “Feng Huang Lai Yi” Debate Competition was held at room C106 at Lize Building. The competition aims to spark the school’s discussion on current affairs, guiding students to care more about the society. The topic of the competition is “on-looking online contributes to solving social problems or not”; and judges and guests are representatives from the school’s sister institutions.

The competition started off with the proponent side, claiming the argument that “on-looking online contributes to solving social problems”, and then the opponent side fight back with rigorous analysis. The fierce debates and incisive comments from the judges triggered a warm and vivid atmosphere while applause resounded through the audience. Finally, the fourth debater of the opponent, Lin Deng, won the award of “Best Debater”.

Truth can be gleaned from lively debates. It is exactly the constant practice of challenging and defending on both sides that makes the truth ever-clearer. Through debates, students find their own path for deepening their thoughts, enhancing knowledge and broadening horizons as well.
