On May 18th and 19th, 2013, 21 students from different majors and grades of the School of Government and Law paid a visit to Hong Kong and communicated with members of the Youth Outreach as well as the Social Work Association of Hong Kong Baptist University.
At 4pm on May 18th, the students firstly went to the Youth Outreach with accompany of students from Hong Kong Baptist University. The Youth Outreach, founded in 1991, is an institution aiming to help young people when they come across troubles or crisis. Main services include City Challenge, School of Hiphop, Hangout, HKIYS, ITDW, Outreaching Team, Transitional Housing, Crisis Centers, Concorde Psych, and so on. The great variety of types of social work institutions greatly enhances students’ understanding on social work and sparks broad discussions about its future development.
At 9am on May 19th, the team visited Hong Kong Baptist University and made further discussion with members of Social Work Association there. All of the students from both universities are randomly divided into six groups, and talked in depth on the present and future development of social work as well as associations’ daily operation. They also gave each other some gifts after the activity.
At 3pm, the activity successfully came to an end. All the participants agreed that they had learned many practical knowledge and experience of conducting social work, which will be very helpful for their future study.
