On July 13th, 2013, over 400 BNUZ students in uniform left the campus for Beijing, embarking on their Beijing trip for 2013 Summer Social Practice.

In the afternoon of July 14th, after 21 hours train ride, over 400 students and teachers were well received by the BNU volunteers at Beijing Train Station and later arrived on Beijing Campus safely. Though tired after a long journey, the students still could not resist their love and curiosity towards familiar-yet-strange Beijing Campus. Therefore, right after the diner, they went around the campus in groups, appreciating the scenery and taking photos.

The next day greeted the students with lectures given by all famous professors and master-minds in Jingwen Hall early in the morning.

The lecture series were unveiled by the welcome speech delivered by Prof. Chen Guangju, former president of BNUZ and current vice president of BNU. In his enlightening speech, he hoped this trip a fulfilled one where the students could gain confidence while correct weakness. He also encouraged the students to see around with a learning heart, broaden their horizons, set up appropriate targets and map out a bright future.

The first lecture was given by Prof. Guo Junli. In her lecture titled A Splendid Report: the Enlightening Story of An Alumni, she introduced the history of BNU in details and listed the outstanding figures, who played an important role on the development of BNU. She also introduced the distinguished academic leaders, famous professors and outstanding alumni of BNU. The students cannot help but chanting, “BNU, our beloved Alma Mater, is the home of talents.” At last, Prof. Guo expressed her sincere wishes to the students with a specially prepared gift, a memorial ring for the 110th Anniversary of the Founding of BNU, which on the top engraved the University Motto "of studies, be the master; of behavior, be the model".

The 2nd speech was given by Academician Wang Zikun, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, former president of BNU, famous mathematician, educator and popular science writer. Prof. Wang is already 85 years old, but he is still very energetic. He, based on his own life experience, demystified the keys to success in a fashion of storytelling. He pointed out that dream is the sunshine to the heart; genius is nothing but industry and diligence; success comes from persistence; interest and industry are the prerequisite to success; and chances are for those who are prepared. These words are plain yet carrying massive power; the tone is smooth yet revealing the great power of the knowledge. The students were deeply attracted not only by his speech but also by Prof. Wang’s charismatic personality.

In the afternoon, the students visited the History Hall and the Culture Hall under the guidance of the students of Beijing Campus. Wandering on the historical campus, BNUZ students become more familiar with and developed a deeper attachment to Beijing campus.

This year marks the 4th trip to Beijing Campus, which is also the brand activity of BNUZ for 3rd semester. During the trip, students attend series of lectures given by famous professors and outstanding alumni. Moreover, the students also have a chance to visit land marks in Beijing such as General Administration of Sport of China, National Museum of China, Tian'an men Square and Great Wall. Such social practice is a significant platform for the BNUZ students to know the Beijing Campus better, broaden their horizons and deepen their love to their alma mater.
