Sept. 28^th, 2013 (Aug. 28^th in Chinese lunar calendar) is the 2564^th anniversary of Confucius’ birth. To commemorate the great thinker and educator in ancient Chinese history, a grand ceremony was held in front of the Confucius’ statue at BNUZ.

The ceremony began at 10 o’clock in the morning. the city representatives from various sectors presented wreaths and bowed to the statue of Confucius three times according to the traditional ritual. Prof. Guo Qijia from School of Government and Law, who is also the Vice President of Chinese Confucius Institute, gave a speech. Combing the global impact of Confucius and current development of China, Mr. Guo pointed out the importance of Confucius and his great thoughts. He said promoting the culture of Confucius is a significant way of enhancing cultural awareness and self-confidence to achieve cultural self-reliance in China. Currently, the whole country is making efforts for the great Chinese dream. In realizing it, unique Chinese ways must be taken, the Chinese spirits must be carried forward, and various Chinese forces must be united. Confucius thoughts reflect the basic spirits of traditional Chinese culture. It plays a significant practical and historical role in building socialist and harmonious society, enhancing the national cohesion, and achieving the great rejuvenation of the country. To this end, Mr. Guo called on everyone’s efforts to learn and carry forward traditional Chinese culture, in order to contribute our own strength in achieving the Chinese dream.

Subsequently, led by Mr. Guo and the students and teachers from Zhuhai Institue of chant, all attendance read the oration wrote by Mr. Guo himself with great respect. The atmosphere was so impressive that took the attendance back to thousands years ago. All attended guests felt like experiencing the brilliant culture and human character with Confucius and his fellow students. Children from Nanshan School also read some other classics loudly. The ceremony completed successfully after everyone read the article of Li Yun Da Tong together. Attended institutes took pictures in front of the statue.

This commemorate activity is not only a spiritual baptism for all the students and teachers to experience the profound traditional Chinese culture with long history, but also inspired their enthusiasm of leaning and passing on traditional culture.

The ceremony was held by BNUZ School of Government and Law. The participated representatives are from Zhuhai Institue of chant, Zhuhai Happiness Culture Association, Zhuhai Xiangzhou Association of Moral Education, Zhuhai Xiangzhou Harmonious Social Research Council, Science Museum of Lingnan Family, Nanshan School, Xueyi College and other Zhuhai sectors. Students and teachers from the School of Government and Law, Chinese Culture Club and Hanfu Club also joined in this ceremony.
