At 10:00 am May 17^th, the 2^nd Zhuhai Doumen Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament of Sport Festival was kicked off. Altogether 17 dragon boat teams were invited, including 9 of municipal level from HK, Macau, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Jiangmen and Dongguan, 5 of township from Doumen district and 3 consisting of university students from Zhuhai. In the witness of 50,000 audiences, a fierce competitional feast was unveiled on the Huangyang rivier in Zhuhai.

In this year’s tournament, a team of 26 BNUZ students, all from School of Sports and Leisure, made their debut. This is their first time to join such splendid dragon boat game. With unremitting efforts, the BNUZ team ranked No.1 among all university teams and No. 6 among all 17 teams with a score of 3 min 37 sec. 42. After the competition, Wang Zhao, team member of BNUZ Dragon Boat expressed his excitement about the final result in an interview, saying his wishes to continue the game next year. Prof. Zhong Yong and Prof. Zhao Shunlai, Dean and Deputy Dean of School of Sports and Leisure also came to the competition field to cheer up.

School of Sports and Leisure has always attached great importance to the physical education and teaching by actively organizing students for sports games and positively supporting regional development of sports undertakings. From this year’s tournament, students not only learned about the dragon boat as Chinese traditional culture but also laid solid foundation for the school to open up more unique majors and innovative teaching model, combined learning with practice, broke through the limitations of traditional teaching model and demonstrated the creativity and innovation of School of Sports and Leisure in teaching mechanism.
