September 28, 2014 (the fifth day of September of Lunar year) marks the 2565th birthday of Confucius. To commemorate this ancient China's famous thinker and educator, our university held a grand celebration in front of the bronze statue of Confucius at Liyun building, upholding the tradition for many years. The activity is jointly organized by School of Government and Law of BNUZ and Zhuhai Nanshan Academy of Chinese Culture, with help of Zhuhai Chanting Institute, Zhuhai Wanggu Culture Communication Co., Ltd and Xiangzhou Moral Education Association. There are also attendees from Civil Affairs Bureau of Zhuhai Municipal Government, Zhuhai City Cultural Center, Zhuhai Municipal Association of Social Sciences, Sub-district Office of Meihua street, Yuanming Neighborhood Committee, Zhongzhu Academy of Chinese Culture of Zhuhai City, Zhuhai Poetry and Couplets Association, Guqin Association of Zhuhai, Zhuhai Coins Association, Zhuhai Bodhi Yoga Studio, "Han Chinese Clothing Association" of BNUZ.

The official commemoration began at 10 a.m. All the clothing, sacrifice and furnishings of the ceremony are in compliance with the rules of ancient Ceremony of Confucius in Han Dynasty. First, it began with ritual music of the Han Dynasty, and the attendees, dressed in Chinese clothes, conduct the ceremony respectful in orders of greeting God, playing gagaku, first tribute presenting, second tribute presenting, third tribute presenting, reading the oration and so on. After the solemn tribute, attendees bowed three times to the Confucius statue and read oration aloud great respect.

In ancient times, the Ceremony of Confucius is regarded as “the national ceremony”. It is not only important for us to respect the ancient sages and the Chinese traditional culture, but also for the future generations to inherit ancient wisdom and etiquette. By participating in this commemoration, both teachers and students furthered their understanding in Chinese culture and history, as well as being inspired to learn and pass on our splendid tradition.
