In the morning of December 15th, the 7th Cross-Country Orienteering of BNUZ, which was sponsored and undertaken by the university’s Youth League Committee and the Student Associations, was held in the Stadium. With an increase of more than 100 teams comparing to the last year, nearly 360 teams and 2000 students participated in the game. The hurdles were set by over 40 student clubs.

Different from directly distributing maps to each team in the past years, all the teams had to make a puzzle of the map and then begin the treasure hunt. Many new and diverse hurdles in the competition, including playing chords, holding balloon and answering questions, and throwing and keeping balance of bamboo, received praise from the participating students. Zhou from the School of Literature said that this year’s competition hurdles were more attractive and meaningful, and they all had a good time. Finally, Lingyun Team from the Lingyun Club won the first prize and Lijin Team from the Student Union won the second prize. At the Closing Ceremony in the midday, instructor of the Student Associations Yun Lin and the president Muzi Li gave awards to the winning teams. The Hip Hop Club, Nunchaku Club, and Music Club also performed wonderful shows in the ceremony.

Members from the Lingyun Team, which had first joined in the competition but won the first prize, said that their major winning factors were daily sport training, captain commanding and the positive teamwork. Members from the Lijin Team mentioned that they had done a lot of advance preparation in order to better participate in the game. Together with quick-thinking and the spirit of unity and cooperation, they successfully won the second prize. In addition, student Lin from the team COW in the School of Art and Communication said that comparing to the final results, process of this competition was more important; and hoped that through this game, not only exercise had been taken, but also friendship between groups and clubs could be enhanced, and more fun could be added to their college life. President of the Student Associations also expressed that the Cross-Country Orienteering of BNUZ was more than a sport competition, but a wonderful experience of all the clubs and societies. Such activities had enriched the extracurricular lives of students, and wished the annual orienteering race could bring more vitality to the campus.

Founded in the year 2005, the Cross-Country Orienteering of BNUZ is one of the top 4 brand activities held by the Student Associations. Through special forms and attractive hurdles, this competition encourages students to join in outdoor activities, enjoy the fun of college life, and cultivate positive spirit. One of the most special features of the Cross-Country Orienteering of BNUZ is the combination of student clubs’ activities and orienteering race. Through this way, the interesting aspect, as well as the intellectual factors can be perfectly combined. Students can broaden horizons and gain knowledge in participating in the fierce competition and the enjoyable game.
