2013 BNUZ Mathematic Contest in Modeling, which was jointly organized by Academic Division and School of Applied Mathematics, fell its curtain with great success today. 137 students from 8 schools team up for 46 teams to participate in this contest.
The competition was divided into preliminaries and finals.Participants made up a team of 2-3 students freely and participated in the contest with team as a unit. The whole contest was held on line with the contestant downloaded contest topics via internet and handed in papers on line.
Preliminary stage is relatively simple, mainly to test students’ basic mathematics, writing and programming capabilities.Contestants need to work out two topics in a week, namely "seeking maximum value and minimum value of a complicated function" and "balance ball problem." At the end of the preliminaries, 37 teams eventually entered the finals.
The questions of the final turn comes as the following: “evaluation of scholarship” “merchandise stocking strategy ”and “a research on China’s long-term demographic and economic development ”. Each team picked put one question and finish their paper in Modeling within one week.
Carefully reviewed by the contest committee, winners of a first prize, second prize three, third nine and eleven successful competition prizes were awarded. Some of them will be selected as representatives of BNUZ to attend the national contest.
