On June 6th, the 2014 Enactus World Cup (China Station) Competition ended in National Conference Center in Beijing. The Enactus Team from BNUZ stood out among all 75 participant teams from higher institutions across the nation and won the second place with the project named “Kidney of the Earth”.

In the past three years, the “Kidney of the Earth” project has been mainly focusing on solving the polluted water in Nazhou District of Zhuhai. It has creatively proposed the notion of “water purification by plants” based on the research and practice in perspectives of environment, economy and society. It cooperated with the local government to explore the business value of plants, taught local residents on the planting techniques, provided the flowers as raw materials to cosmetics factory. Through eight sessions of planting, the pollution issue has been improved and through authorative inspection, the water quality in Nazhou district has been lifted from the poor 5 level to 3 level which could be used to irrigate farmland. At the same time, by selling flowers, it also helped the local residents to enhance their annual income and life quality, which brings the notion of “operating public projects in fashions of business” into a reality.

The Enactus World Cup (China Station) this year attracted 175 teams of higher institutions from across the nation. And after the fierce competition in 6 districts, 75 excellent teams stood out and participated in the finals in National Conference Center from June 5th to 6th and shared the notion of “operating public projects in fashions of business”.
