In the afternoon of September 13th, the University’s Opening Ceremony for freshmen of 2014 was held at the sports ground. Honored guests include: Prof. Liu Chuansheng, chairperson of BNU CPC committee; Prof. Zhang Houcan, State Department counselor, CPPCC National Committee members, standing director of National Psychological Society, and vice-chairman of the International Union of Psychological Science; Prof. Zhang Jun, dean of SYSU’s School of Advanced Computing; Ms Guo Haiyan, deputy director of BNU’s Degree Department at Graduate School; Prof. Yao Li, dean of BNU’s College of Information Science& Technology; Dr. David Wicks, Academic Liaison of Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary’s University, Canada; Prof. Tu Qingyun, president of BNUZ; Prof. Tang Wei, chairperson of BNUZ CPC committee; Prof. Yan Bofei, vice president of BNUZ; Prof. Wu Zongkui, vice president of BNUZ; Dr. Dai Wei, deputy chairperson of BNUZ CPC committee; head of all the schools and departments of BNUZ. The ceremony is hosted by Prof. Fu Ailan, vice president of BNUZ.

First, Prof. Liu made a speech on behalf of BNU. She conveyed the spirit of the important speech given by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to BNU. She emphasized that BNUZ is an outcome of BNU’s following the national policies, and promoting educational reform and innovation. It has become an integral part of BNU’s goal of becoming an international renowned university. She also praised BNUZ’s great achievement in educational reform, international cooperation, cultivation of professional talents and campus culture since its foundation. She specified the opportunities and challenges that BNUZ has come across in its development; and finally, she also pointed out her demands and expectation for the university’s senior leaders, staff and new students.
Prof. Tu then delivered a speech on behalf of BNUZ. He extended warm welcomes to the new students and introduced the main progresses and features of BNUZ’s education in the past thirteen years. Meanwhile, he illustrated three hopes for the 2014 freshmen, that is, to be moral, to be determined and to combined learning and thinking together.

Dr. Lu Wei, spoke as a teacher representative. He considered teacher as a dream maker for the students and to become an outstanding student, one should put self-discipline prior to study. By taking examples, he illustrated two principles: first, study requries be intensive and extensive; second, self-discipline must be thankful and heartfelt.
Xia Meng was the representative of 2014 freshmen. She expressed her understanding about college life, hoping to be fully immersed in study and university activities in the future four years.
At last, Liu Jing made a speech on behalf of the newly enrolled postgraduate students. She extended her expectation and pleasure of being a member of this beautiful university and said that she would tried her best to overcome obstacles, to help each other, and to learn insistently, when fulfilling dreams with all the new students.
