Prof. Geng Xiangdong

Prof. Geng currently holds the position of the Chairperson of the University Council. He was born in November, 1962 from Jiaozhou, Shandong Province. He is a member of Communist Party of China, Principle Investigator and the Supervisor of Postgraduates.
Prof. Geng was enrolled in the Department of History, Beijing Normal University (BNU) in 1980, received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from BNU in 1984 and began his teaching career in BNU after graduation. In 1993, he obtained his Master’s Degree in History at BNU. After that, he worked in BNU as Vice Chairperson of Department of History, Dean of Office of Teaching & Research of Contemporary Chinese History, Secretary of CPC of Department of History and Chairperson of School of History as well as a member of the 11th and 12th University Council, BNU.
His research area is Contemporary Chinese History. He was promoted to associate professor in 1996 and to principle investigator in 2008. He was in adjunct position as executive director of the Association of Contemporary Chinese History and member of the Association of National History of P. R. China. He taught the undergraduate and postgraduate courses including National History of P. R. China, Topic-oriented Projects of Contemporary Chinese History, etc.
His major works include Exploring China’s Roads – A Study of Chinese Politics and Social Research in 20th Century and Illustration of Chinese Diplomacy. He joined and compiled China in 20th Century – The Progress to Modernization (Volume in Social Life 1949-2000), On History of Culture and Ideas of Communist Party of China, Contemporary Chinese History, Modern History of China (4th Edit) and so on. Over 40 articles and theses were published in QIUSHI, CCCPC Party Literature, Social Science Journal and other journals.
