President of Saint Mary’s University Gave a Lecture to BNUZ Students

On Nov 18th, Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray, President of Saint Mary’s University, Canada, was invited to BNUZ to give a lecture entitled The Protection Of Island Eco-Systems: A Case Of Environmental Management In The Atlantic Province Of Canada for 2015 Class of 2+2 Program in teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, at Room A205 in LiYun Building.

In the lecture, Prof. Summerby-Murray talked about the geographic location of Grindstone Island and its prosperous eco-system. Prof. Summerby-Murray also explained the history of the ownership of Grindstone Island, with reference of the island's topographic map in different periods and discussed the balance between the environmental protection and the commercial development of the island through analyzing the historical disputes of the island’s development plan. Summerby-Murray also put forward that Zhuhai is another city which boasts many Islands, which is similar to the province of Nova Scotia, where Saint Mary’s University locates. Therefore, how to balance the environmental protection and economic development while improving the city is a question worth people’s awareness.

In the afternoon, Professor Zhang Mingyuan, Dean of School of Chinese, and Prof. Summerby-Murray further discussed on how to deepened cooperation on the international Chinese studies program, 2+2 dual degree Program and other programs.
