President of Saint Mary’s University Visited BNUZ

On Nov 18th, Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray, President of Saint Mary’s University, Canada, together with his wife Ms. Susan Summerby-Murray visited BNUZ. Prof. Qingyun Tu, BNUZ’s President and Prof. Ailan Fu, BNUZ’s Vice President met with them at BNUZ International Center. Prof. Mingyuan Zhang, Dean of School of Chinese, Prof. Wenhao Tao, Dean of School of Foreign Languages and staff from BNUZ Office of International Exchanges & Cooperation attended the meeting.

In the meeting, both sides reviewed the cooperation in the past years. Prof. Wenhao Tao, on behalf of the Management Committee of BNUZ-SMU Finance Program, introduced to Prof. Summerby-Murray about the enrollment of 2015 and the English teaching so far. Prof. Summerby-Murray expressed his sincere thanks to the efforts that BNUZ has made to running the Program and he said that SMU will also try their best to support this Program. Next, Prof. Mingyuan Zhang introduced the enrollment of the 2+2 Program on Chinese Education. In order to make more students gain more understanding about this 2+2 Program , SMU assigned professors from SMU to BNUZ to give three courses since the first semester this academic year. Prof. Fu said such in-depth cooperation is a great help to deepen students understanding about the program as well a great help to prepare students before they go to Canada in 2 years. Moreover it is also a platform for cooperative research and cooperative teaching between faculty.

In the morning of their visit, Prof. Summerby-Murray also gave a lecture to students of BNUZ- SMU Finance Program and School of Chinese, with a title of A story of an Island in Atlantic Canada: Environmental Protection on Grandstone Island in the Bay of Fundy. Prof. Summerby-Murray explained the environmental protection on the island and extended to Nova Scotia in current days, which inspired students great interest and their thinking on current environmental protection in China.

During their visit, Prof. Summerby-Murray and Ms. Susan Summerby-Murray also met with students of BNUZ-SMU Finance Program and had friendly talk with them. Students talked about their study to Prof. Summerby-Murray and presented to him their well-prepared gift. Prof. Summerby-Murray encouraged students to make full use of the mutal resources at BNUZ and SMU and make a wonderful plan to their life.
