Position: Assistant Manager, BComm Program (Zhuhai Cohort) (One Year Contract)

Salary: $45,000 - $50,000 per annum + 4% in lieu of vacation

The Sobey School of Business has recently launched a new partnership with Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai (BNUZ). Students will complete half of their courses with BNUZ faculty and half their courses will be taught by Saint Mary’s faculty in Zhuhai. Successful completion of the program earns students a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance. Starting in August 2014, the person filling this position will be primarily located in Zhuhai but will also spend 3 – 4 months a year in Halifax.


Under the supervision of the Commerce Undergraduate Program Manager, the Assistant Manager provides administrative support for all facets of recruitment, admission, and delivery of the Bachelor of Commerce Program (Zhuhai Cohort). The Assistant Manager participates in strategic academic and non-academic planning; provides administrative leadership in day-to-day operations and program management. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for coordinating all logistical arrangements for Saint Mary’s employees participating in the Bachelor of Commerce Program (Zhuhai Cohort). Duties in this position include, but are not limited to: 

- Providing academic advice and support to students and parents in the Bachelor Commerce (Finance major) at BNUZ.
- Acting as the primary communicator with faculty, administration, students and parents on program related matters
- Ensuring smooth operation of administrative functions (for example, collection of course evaluations, writing of correspondence with students, faculty and staff, processing documentation pertaining to academic regulations, ordering textbooks, etc.)
- In conjunction with the BNUZ Recruitment Office, assisting with all aspects of recruiting and admission of new students which may require travel outside of Zhuhai
- With administration and faculty of BNUZ and SMU, assisting in the development and delivery of program orientation sessions
- In collaboration with BNUZ and SMU, develop and maintain a webpage for the program as well as links to the Saint Mary’s webpage.
- Arranging all logistical issues related to faculty teaching at BNUZ including, but not limited to, accommodations, visas, air travel, etc.
- Maintaining financial and budgetary information.


To be the successful Assistant Manager, BComm Program (Zhuhai, China) you will possess a Bachelor of Commerce undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and at least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role. In this role you must have the ability to travel worldwide and must hold a valid passport for international travel (or be able to obtain such passport) to the qualifications section to ensure that the person we hire is able to obtain all the proper documentation to go to China. Fluency in English is mandatory. Fluency in Mandarin and work experience in an educational setting is also preferred. Cross-cultural sensitivity is essential.
