National Seminar on College English Teaching Held at BNUZ

In the morning of March 24th, National Seminar on College English Teaching, which was co-organized by School of BNUZ Foreign Languages and Fudan University Press, was held on the 3rd floor of International Center. Prof. Guangju Chen, president of BNUZ and Mr. Ronggen Du, general manager of Fudan University Press, delivered opening speeches. Prof. Wenhao Tao, dean of School of Foreign Languages, presided over the seminar.

Prof. Guangju Chen first gave an introduction to the development of BNUZ and its exploration on education reform and then affirmed what School of Foreign Languages has achieved regarding English teaching reform. At the end of Prof. CHEN’s speech, he wished the seminar a great success.

Prof. Wenhao Tao gave a brief yet impressive introduction to the reform and achievements of College English teaching by School of Foreign Languages, BNUZ. Prof. Rongpei Wang and Prof. Yongquan Bai, experts on College English teaching, shared all their perspectives on current college English teaching and the existing problems. Yanli Cui, the deputy director of the Department of College English, introduced the textbook series of 21st Century College English for Interactive Purposes, which was edited by teachers of School of Foreign Languages with Prof. Tao as the chief editor in general and published by Fudan University Press.

The attendees exchanged opinions in depth on the topics “Is the goal of College English teaching academic or practical?” and “Teaching modes and discipline construction of ESP in College English teaching” respectively. Li Lei,director of the Department of College English,School of Foreign Languages, BNUZ, gave the details of the reform of College English teaching at BNUZ which many deans were interested in.

Over 200 deans of Faculties of Foreign Languages from over 180 universities and other higher educational institutions attended the seminar sponsored by Fudan University Press. Attendees spoke highly about the achievements BNUZ got regarding innovation on College English teaching.
