Delegation From Cardiff University Visited BNUZ

On Sep. 18th, a delegation from Cardiff University visited BNUZ, including Dr. Stephen Bentley, Dean of College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, Prof. Johannes Benedikt from School of Engineering, Prof. Ralph Martin from School of Computer Science and Informatics, Dr. Jonathan Thompson, Director of Admissions and International, Dr. Dan Read, Senior Lecturer from School of Physics and Astronomy and Ms. Sunny Deng from International Admissions Department. Several school representatives from BNUZ warmly received the delegation and had an in-depth meeting about the cooperation between two sides.

At 11 o’clock in the morning, representatives from BNUZ School of Information Technology and School of Mathematics first met with the CU delegation. Prof. Ni Yuhua, Deputy Dean of School of Information Technology, Prof. Huang Jing, Department head of Computer Science, Dr. Ren Langbo, Department Head of Digital Medium, Prof. Mi Honghai, Dean of Mathmatics, Associate Prof. Yuan Fei, together with Ms. Li Lei, Deputy Director of Office of International Exchanges and Cooperation, attended the meeting. First of all, Ms. Li made a brief introduction about BNUZ and the current international development. Dr. Bentley expressed his hope to carry out more fundamental cooperation through this visit. Then, both sides had a heated discussion about the feasibility of 2+2 program on majors like computer science, software engineer and applied mathematics.

In the afternoon, Prof. Martin and Prof. Thompson gave a lecture to students from School of Information Technology and School of Mathematics respectively. In the lectures, two professors made brief introduction about the Cardiff University and College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and then made an exhibition about their two research projects. The lectures not only deepened the students understanding about the different majors but also inspired their interest in study and research. Most students showed great interest in CU’s master program.

Cardiff University is an important partner with both BNU, Beijing and BNU Zhuhai. in the same day, that is at 4:00 pm on Sep. 18th (UK time), BNU-CU United Chinese College was inaugurated in the stadium of CU, UK. BNU President Prof. Dong Qi, on behalf of BNU, and CU President Prof. Colin Riordan on behalf of CU endorsed the Charter of BNU-CU United Chinese College. Chinese Premiere Liu Yandong and First Minister of Wales Mr. Carwyn Jones, witnessed the signing ceremony and inaugurated the BNU-CU United Chinese College, marking the formal establishment of BNU-CU United Chinese College. Those who attended the meeting also include Yuan Guiren, China’s Minister of Education, Li Bin, China’s Minister of Health and other Chinese government officials who came to UK for China-UK High Level People-to-people Dialogue. BNU-CU United Chinese College is a new trial for BNU to run school overseas. The College is co-hosted by BNU and CU School of Modern Languages. The College mainly aims to enroll European students who will spend the first and fourth years in CU, UK and the 2nd and 3rd years in BNU, China. After completion, qualified students will be conferred graduation certificates issued by BNU.
