The International Chinese Studies Program Fully Complete

The Graduation ceremony of the 1st International Chinese Studies program was held at C101, Leyu Building. Dr. Chunyan Gan, director of Office of International Affairs, presided over the ceremony. Prof. Mingyuan Zhang, dean of School of Chinese, Prof. Robert Perrins, dean of Faculty of Arts at Acadia University, Prof. Beaupre, Canadian Director of Confucius Institute at Saint Mary’s University, Mr. Bill Bu and other experts of International Chinese Studies program were presented at the ceremony.


As the first person to deliver the speech, Prof. Mingyuan Zhang spoke highly of the seminal significance of the first International Chinese Studies. The first teaching practice proves t be a great shortcut to help foreign students to understand Chinese culture and facilitate Chinese students to observe China in an international angle. Prof. Zhang also thanked Prof. Robert Perrins and Prof. Beaupre for putting their wisdom, knowledge and passion to this program. He believed that next year’s program would achieve greater success based on this year’s achievement.


Prof. Robert Perrins and Prof. Beaupre, experts with decades of teaching experience, extended their excitement for teaching at this program. Prof. Robert Perrins said he once quoted Lao Tzu‘s “A journey of a thousand miles begins with single step “at the opening ceremony. Now when the first step was finished, he felt unwilling to part this program, and look forward to teaching at next year’s program, Prof. Beaupre shared the same feelings.

Delivering the speech with both English and Chinese, he said he has regarded Zhuhai as his second hometown and wish to visit Zhuhai regularly. Both of them share confidence for the future program.


Students also shared their feelings during conversations. They recalled memorable learning experience and thanked the professor for the well-designed courses and patient guidance. Students from Canada all prepared Chinese speech; they extended gratitude for their Chinese language partners. Some also hope that they can study Chinese back to China after graduation.


The last and most solemn part of the graduation ceremony is awarding graduation certificates. Prof. Zhang, Prof. Robert Perrins and Prof. Beaupre awarded certificates for students from Canada, overseas students at BNUZ, BNUZ students respectively.


During this program, professor and students also received reception form Ms. Guangyan Long, deputy mayor of Zhuhai. Every week, Canadian students had field trip to Zhongshan, Humen, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau and so forth to observe the local culture. After all courses being finished, Canadian students performed one week internship in related enterprise so as to learn about more vivid Chinese society and culture by themselves.
